No-Limit Texas Hold'em Strategy- Are You Playing Too Aggressive?
As you progress as a player, you will hopefully adjust to a more loose aggressive style. All of the great players are able to push their opponents off pots when they sense weakness. Learning how to play loose aggressive may be one of the toughest feats to accomplish in poker. Playing too aggressive is the most common mistake among players trying to reach that next level. Against a tight opponnent, the best strategy is to play aggressive against him. When he starts to play back at you, it is necessary to change gears and play tight. If you fail to change gears, your opponent will start pushing you off pots, check-raising, and basically making decisions very difficult. How do you know what your opponent is holding if he check-raises you every time? Most times, neither of you will actually hit anything on the flop. Your opponent will be willing to put chips in the pot with nothing because he doesn't want you running over him.
When you recognize your opponent's willingness to gamble, it's time for you to play decent cards. You are trying to set up a big hand to take his whole stack. Playing too aggressive will be the main source of your losses at this level of poker. Through many hands and experience at the tables, you should get a feel for when your opponent is going to play back. Make future decisions easier on yourself by slowing down when your opponent starts to play back at you. Changing gears at the appropriate time is key to being a successful poker player.
